Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop has expressed her pleasure and satisfaction with the redevelopment of the ANGAU Memorial General Hospital and Lae School of Nursing.
During her visit to the hospital to witness the projects Hon Bishop visited the new post natal ward and operating theater which are the projects implemented and built by Australian Government funding. She was shown around the new ward and theater by ANGAU CEO Dr Christopher Kenyhercz, Board Chairman David Wissink, Deputy Chairlady Sarah Haoda Todd and Board Member Carol Yawing.
Hon Bishop was accompanied by Minister for International Development and Pacific Senator the Hon. Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, and Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Hon Keith Pitt, who all expressed their pleasure in the projects saying these projects would truly help and provide vital services to the people of Lae City, Morobe Province and PNG.
PNG Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade the Hon Rimbink Pato who also was part of the dignitaries thanked the Australian Government's support to the infrastructural and human resource capital of PNG where he stated these infrastructures and aid provided would ensure services are felt and delivered at all levels in the country.
Hon Bishop then proceeded to the redevelopment of the Lae School of Nursing were she addressed students and staff and committed Australia's support to the human resource and infrastructural development of PNG. She officially opened the new Dental Clinic at the Lae School of Nursing and expressed her satisfaction at the state of the art facilities in the new Dental Clinic. She reaffirmed her commitment to PNG's development through Australian funding and technical assistance.
