ANGAU is a 'Public Hospital' as described under the PNG Public Hospital Act 1994.
It is governed by a Board of Management appointed by the Minister for Health. Under section 7 of the Act, its function is to administer and maintain the public hospital and its facilities for the care and treatment of the local people and to engage in and assist in the provision of community health education and public health information services to the local communities among others.
The Board has the power to do things necessary or convenient to be done for or in connection with the performance of its functions.
The Board's objectives are
- to make the ANGAU Memorial General Hospital accountable to the local community.
- to provide services in the hospital appropriate and acceptable to the local community.
- to encourage the local community to participate in planning and in the decision making process in relation to the hospital.
